Pause to discuss this together. During sharing, use a popcorn approach instead of going around the circle so that whoever has a memory can speak first. Often, hearing others' experiences, sparks recall. Make sure everyone has a chance to talk, but also allow people to pass.

Encourage an expansive definition of partnership. In fact, if a student says, "I'm not sure that this is really an example of partnership," encourage them to share it and clarify that what you are interested in is their personal definition; all examples are welcome.

Option: Pass a talking object around, such as the basket, for people to hold while they are speaking. Example: "My family moved a lot. I remember being new in a school in second grade. Everyone was waiting in line outside the school building the first day. Some girls came over to me and said, 'Come on, join us,' and introduced me to other kids.

This made a big difference in how I felt. Reflect upon what the stories reveal about the meaning of partnership. You may notice qualities such as feeling trusted, having creativity encouraged, experiencing freedom, feeling welcomed into the adult world as well as elements of cooperation and collaboration in the stories. Rather than trying to apply a narrow standard of what partnership means, we are trying to study it in all its forms.

If you have a basket and a piece of pottery, reflect as well upon ways people have passed on skills from generation to generation. Ask: how long ago do you think the first baskets were made? Think about the partnership that exists between one generation and the next. The story focuses on the coming-of-age of a thirteen-year-old girl as she asks her small New England town to declare an outbreak of peace. A key theme of the book is expanding understanding of peace and unlearning racism.

Readers learn about the Internment Camps during WWII, the bombing of Hiroshima, and most of all about the complexities of human interactions. Although it is written as a young adult novel, it has had a strong impact on adults as well. Studs Terkel said in an hour-long interview: "This book is a natural for both young people and adults. Two dozen young people illustrated the book and were involved in shaping it.

Young illustrators were given contracts and were paid for their work. At our press conference, the young people fielded questions and took turns accepting a question from a student and then a question from an adult so that voices from all ages could be heard. When the award was given in New York City, illustrator Amanda Cohen came up to the podium with Sarah and they accepted it together on behalf of the whole group.

It is a realistic book with believable adult characters whose concerns, whether they favor or oppose 'an outbreak of peace' are taken seriously. But it is Sarah Pirtle's sensitivity to young people and their feelings that simply shines through.

My opinion? We then took a muffin pan and wrote the same letters onto the muffin pan. The children take turns picking a letter from the bag and matching it to the muffin pan.

The above pictures are from our September preschool curriculum. During the month of September the children will be learning the letters A Above is a pre reading activity where the children glued on buttons onto the letter B. If you have children under the age of 3 in your daycare, you may not want to use buttons, you could use pieces of blue paper or use blue stickers.

In our preschool curriculum children will be using glue, paint and working on learning how to cut, trace plus we try to include sensory and fine motor into our lesson plans. Sometimes the children will be using rice in a sandbox or planting fake flowers outside or sticking clothespins into holes in an egg carton. We try to recycle items such as milk cartons, toilet paper tubes, paper towel rolls, plastic jar covers, egg cartons when we can and when these items are no longer usable they can be placed into your recycle bin.

In the picture above the toddlers and the preschoolers are working on their art project for the day. They are painting paper plates to make a caterpillar. Print out the page onto copy paper, you will need one page per child. Explain to the children that they are going to color the letters different colors. To begin have them start with one color such as Aa and give them some green crayons and after they are done, have them do the letter Bb and color it blue, and then the letter Cc and color it yellow. If you find this it too hard for some of the younger preschoolers in your class then use the page as a point page instead.

As they are coloring with the dry erase markers you can say something like, can you find the A? Can you find the B? Can you find the C? Help them as needed. Other areas we focus on in our preschool curriculum would be pre math, pre reading, pre writing and science. Each month the children will be introduced to three new letters, to help the children learn these new letters they will do a craft with each of the letters, a letter book and trace the letters.

If we are going to use glue I place the glue into tiny plastic cups. I have found that the sample size of play dough cans work great for this. I then proceed to pass out child sized paint brushes for the young preschool children to use and for the older preschoolers we offer them smaller brushes.

If we are going to paint I make sure each child has some type of paint shirt on. If you do not have enough paint shirts, you can always use an old sweat shirt and cut off the arms. Anything will work. You will also want some rags ready. We use our old washcloths for paint rags. You may find it works best to keep a wet rag handy for spills or for a child who is done before the others.

Or you may want to have a dish pan with a small amount of water in it for the children who finish early can rinse off until they can get into the bathroom to wash up with soap and warm water. Is teddy bear happy or sad?

Free Download! Make a face for teddy bear. Print out the teddy bear craft onto white copy paper. Ask the children how they think teddy bear is feeling. Does he look sad? Does he look mad? Then ask the children if teddy bear was sad how would they know? Would he be smiling? Would he be crying? Then ask the children if teddy bear was mad how would they know? Would he be stamping his feet? Explain to the children that they can decide how their teddy bear feels today.

Have them begin by coloring their teddy bear. More Craft Ideas: When they are done coloring they can make him a face.
